Review:
Searching for Beautiful is the third book in the Searching For series by Jennifer Probst. I absolutely love the series and Searching for Beautiful was just as awesome as the first two books in the series, Searching for Someday and Searching for Perfect.
Genevieve MacKenzie is a surgeon and is preparing to get married to her boss Dr. David Riscetti. There is something that bothers her about getting married to David, but she can't exactly place it. She decides she can't marry him and leaves the chirch before the ceremony. After jumping out the window of the church, she realizes she doesn't know what to do next, until she sees her best friend Wolfe.
Wolfe has been friends with Gen for a very long time and is one of her best friends. He realizes she needs time to process what she has done by running away from the wedding. He takes her to his step-father's cabin to recuperate. Knowing everyone will be worried, Wolfe texts and calls everyone to let them know Gen is ok but needs space and alone time to figure things out.
Gen tells Wolfe what has been going on and how David has been. She realizes David has been very controlling and mentally abusing her. He has caused rifts between her, her family and friends. After taking time off, Gen decides to go back to work. She has a hard time at work caused by things that David has done and said. Since it is so uncomfortable at the hospital Gen decides to take a break from the hospital and goes to work at Kinnections with Kate, Kennedy and Arilyn.
Not wanting to let her go and being the controlling person he is, David confronts Gen at her house and the police are called. Worrying about her safety, Wolfe moves in with her. Since Gen and Wolfe are such good friends, they share things with each other. When Gen tries to go back to dating but is rejected, Wolfe shows her just how desirable she is to him.
Gen and Wolfe tell each other the feelings they have for each other. They decide to try a "friends with benefits" relationship. Gen starts falling in love with Wolfe and tells him she loves him as more than a friend.
Wolfe is haunted by his past and feels he isn't capable to love Gen the way she deserves and is afraid of hurting her. Even though he also loves her as more than a friend, he pushes her away and tries to return to just being friends. Gen tells him they can't even just be friends anymore because it hurts her too much to even see or talk to him.
His step-father Sawyer tries to tell Wolfe that he knows how he feels. That he went through the same thing with his wife Julietta. Sawyer felt damaged and not worthy of her love, but Julietta made him realize he was wrong. He tells Wolfe that when a woman loves a man, she doesn't see any of the past or the bad stuff, just the future.
While having dinner with his adopted grandmother Mama Conte, she tells Wolfe that she has seen the way he and Gen look at each other. She believes that they are soul mates and meant to balance each other. Mama Conte tells Wolfe the beautiful he is searching for is the love he has with Gen.
Wolfe goes to see Gen, who is at her families house and doesn't want to see him. Her mom lets him in and he talks to Gen. Wolfe tells her he loves her and always has loved her. Wolfe says that he realizes he doesn't have to let the past define who he is or their future together. That he will spend the rest of his life showing her if she will let him.
I loved this story. The bond that Gen and Wolfe have is a beautiful one. Wolfe always looks after Gen and takes care of her. In return Gen keeps trying to get Wolfe to let her in and get past the demons he has. I am glad that he finally did. It was also very nice to see the characters from the Marriage to a Billionaire series in this story. With Sawyer, Julietta and Mama Conte.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series Seaching for Always, which is Arilyn's story.
