Summer in New York (Book 1)
About the Book
When a surly paramedic finds Kara Larsen‘s
lost toddler, only to berate her for failing to mind her child, Kara is
embarrassed and relieved she’ll never have to deal with that jerk again.
Doesn’t he know being a single mom is a lot harder than it looks?! But when
baby Nadia has trouble breathing one night, Kara’s frantic 911 call brings that
same jerk right to her door…
FDNY paramedic Reid Bennett has
a compulsion to help frantic parents. But after the way he over-reacted to the
beautiful woman in the department store that day, she wants nothing to do with
him. But it’s not his fault he keeps running into her all over the city…
When Kara bumps into Reid for the third time in
a week, she can’t help but wonder if the mom she lost in 2001 is playing
matchmaker. As Kara and Reid form a cautious friendship, he quickly becomes
baby Nadia’s favorite person. But Reid has no interest in long-term commitment,
or so he thought. So when Nadia’s father calls out of the blue and Kara agrees
to see him, Reid realizes he has some triage to do if he hopes to keep his
girls…
Author’s Note: I

fellow authors Jolyse Barnett and Jennifer Gracen. Jolyse is up next with book
2 in the series, His Kiss, and Jennifer’s His Love is book 3. My His Touch is
the sequel to A Match Made At Christmas, which was the story of Kara’s sister,
Elena, who comes home to New York to help Kara prepare for the birth of her
child. I hope you’ll read all of the books in our series!

Review:
I just read His Touch, Book 1 in the Summer in New York series by Patty Blount and it was such a great book!
I had read the Christmas in New York series and loved the stories.
A Match Made at Christmas is book 4 in the series. That is the story where Kara’s
sister, Elena Larsen is the main character. Kara is a secondary character in A
Match Made at Christmas, but I hoped that she might have a story of her own so
we could see more of her. Kara gave birth to her daughter Nadia at the end of A
Match Made at Christmas and says that her name Nadia means hope.
In His Touch, Nadia is eighteen months old and Kara is a
struggling single mother. She is trying to juggle her work schedule with caring
for her growing daughter. Kara and Elena lost their mother at the 9/11 attack
on the World Trade Center. They both believe in signs from deceased loved ones.
Elena had been getting signs from their mother, but Kara hadn’t as much. She is
waiting for signs from their Mom that she is a good mother to Nadia, especially
since she doesn’t feel like one at the moment.
Reid Bennett is a NYC paramedic. Kara meets him at the child
CPR class he is giving and there is immediate attraction. There are a few times
after they meet that Kara and Reid are in the same place, including the store
where Nadia gets out of her stroller and Reid finds her. Since he is having a
bad day, he is nasty to Kara. Not meaning to he says things that makes Kara
think that her mom is sending her signs that she is a bad mother. Kara says that her mom keeps sending her Reid (Mr.
Judgmental).
Reid has his own issues to deal with. He lost his brother
Kyle on 9/11, his daughter Erin died when she was 3 and he got divorced. He He
isn’t ready to get into a serious relationship, especially with a woman who has
a child. When he is upset he goes to the 9/11 memorial and talks to his brother.
He even hears Kyle say that Reid should help Kara and give a relationship a try
with her. He thinks that Kara might be a sign to him from Erin.
When Nadia’s father tells them about a possible health
problem, Reid gets scared and backs away from Kara. He decides to face the
fears that have been haunting him and tries to repair the broken relationship he
has with Kara.
There was so much emotion in this story. There were the post
9/11 feelings of loss the characters faced, how Kara felt about her mom and
being a mom, as well as Reid’s apprehensiveness about being with Kara. I loved
how they helped each other heal.
One of my favorite parts, and I have a few, is the part
where Reid has a vision of a woman holding his daughter on her lap and reading
to her. He realizes that even though he never met her, that it’s Kara’s mom. I
also loved how the characters from the Christmas in New York stories were
involved in this story.
I highly recommend reading this story, as well as the
previous Christmas in New York stories if you haven’t already.

Meet Patty
Patty Blount writes instruction guides by day and novels by night. On a dare by her oldest son, she wrote her first novel in an ice rink. Though never published, Penalty Killer was the subject of so many seventh grade book reports, the English teacher requested a copy and later returned it, covered in red ink. Patty is always looking for great story ideas. Her debut novel, Send, was conceived after her boss suggested she learn about social networks. Patty lives on Long Island with her family, a fish, and lots of books.
